Fire Suppression

Pre-Action Fire
Sprinkler
Systems

Sprinkler protection for water-sensitive environments where accidental discharge is not an option. Designed to NFPA 13 by FML.

Designed to NFPA 13 Standard
How It Works

Protection Built for Water Sensitive Areas

A pre-action system holds water back until two independent events confirm a fire — first, a detection device activates; then, a sprinkler head reaches its threshold. Both conditions must be met before water discharges. Pipe failure, a mechanically failed head, or a false alarm cannot trigger the system on their own.

FML designs and installs pre-action systems to NFPA 13 for data centres, healthcare facilities, archives, and any environment where the consequences of accidental water damage rival the consequences of fire itself.

1
Detection device activates

A detection device confirms smoke, heat, or flame. The pre-action valve opens and water fills the pipes.

2
Sprinkler head activates

A sprinkler head reaches its activation threshold. Water discharges — only at the point of fire.

What to Expect

What an FML Installation Involves

Site Assessment

Our engineers assess your facility and determine the right configuration — single or double interlock — based on your environment and risk profile.

  • Environment sensitivity review
  • Detection system compatibility
  • Interlock configuration selection
  • NFPA 13 hazard classification

System Design

Hydraulic calculations, pipe layout, pre-action valve specification, and detection system integration schematics. Reviewed and approved before installation begins.

  • Hydraulic and pipe layout design
  • Pre-action valve specification
  • Detection system integration schematic
  • Regulatory submission documentation

Installation

Dry pipework, sprinkler heads, pre-action valve assembly, and detection integration installed by FML’s own team. Phased installation available for live environments.

  • Dry pipework and sprinkler head installation
  • Pre-action valve and control panel assembly
  • Detection device integration
  • Phased installation for live environments

Testing and Commissioning

Full detection-to-suppression sequence testing. We verify every trigger point — no live discharge into the protected area.

  • Detection trigger and valve response test
  • Pipe pressurisation verification
  • Sprinkler head integrity checks
  • Alarm and control panel function test

Certification and Handover

NFPA 13 compliance, as-built drawings, valve maintenance schedule, and a handover briefing covering routine checks and emergency reset procedures.

  • NFPA 13 compliance
  • As-built drawings and documentation
  • Valve maintenance schedule
  • Facilities team handover and reset briefing
